YLTC4: Why I’m on the Bandwagon

If you know me, you know I’m a passionate guy. When I believe in something, I am ALL IN, baby. And that’s how I feel about the efficiency movement in the legal industry today, particularly LTC4 (Legal Technologies Core Competencies Certification Coalition).
Sure, cynically you might say that I’m a believer in LTC4 because I’m a law firm trainer with services and products that help make firms more efficient. But I was a believer in this movement when I served as COO for a Denver law firm. Yes, I used to be a firm “insider” and I moved to the “Dark Side:” law firm consultant. Want to know why? Because I saw such an incredible need in this industry for better systems in support of law firm efficiency!

Here are the impacts of inefficiency in your law firm. (I call this my “Crazy List” because all of these things make me crazy.)

- Frustrated staff

- Lost money
When your law firm operates inefficiently, every single person is impacted and that impacts your bottom line. I’m talking about things as big as how you manage billing down to things as simple as how your team sets up a Word document. If there is inconsistency in your firm, there is inefficiency.
Clients, in particular, will not tolerate inefficiency and it is time for our industry to become more accountable to what our clients should expect. Namely: integrity, honesty, expertise and efficiency.
How Will LTC4 Help?

As a non-profit organization, LTC4 has established legal technology core competencies and certification that all law firms can use to measure ongoing efficiency improvements.
The coalition has developed two distinct certification paths – one for attorneys and another for staff – that benefits all law firms by having a commonly recognized industry standard for each audience.
When a firm states that its attorneys and staff are certified in a set of industry standard, law-firm-approved core competencies, clients are assured that their chosen law firm has the most suitable skill set for handling their complex matters dependably and professionally.
Law firm marketing directors, take note! A firm that is certified as efficient has a huge edge in the proposal process over less-qualified competitors. Who do you think clients will want to work with? The firm that can literally prove its efficiency prowess with a certificate from LTC4, or the firm that simply says, “We will give you more bang for your buck. Take our word for it.”
